In the summer of 2011, our founder met a couple who had just welcomed their first baby.
They were educated. Accomplished. Medical professionals — people who had spent years studying the human body. By every measure, they were prepared for life.
But nothing prepares you for a newborn.
For two days straight, that baby cried. They weren't sleeping. They were exhausted, anxious, and convinced something was terribly wrong. They thought it was the heat. Our founder offered them a window AC. The baby kept crying.
On the third day, our founder stopped by and offered to help. They said yes.
She had brought raw shea butter — the kind passed down through generations of African mothers. She whipped it by hand into a cream, bathed that baby, and then did what African mothers have always known — massaging that child from head to toe with love, intention, and that golden butter.
Then she left.
The next morning, they called.
"The baby is still sleeping."
That little secret — rooted in generations of African wisdom — saved that couple from an entire summer of postpartum stress and anxiety. Our founder continued helping them all summer long.
